Student Requirements and Instructional Design
This field experience should take at least 3 hours to complete.
To complete this assignment, use the Clinical Field Experience B- ELA Pre-Assessment template.
Pre-Assessment and Implementation (Part 1)
You identified 3-5 students who would benefit from additional learning support during your previous observation in your field experience classroom, whether they were above, at, or below standard achievement. You also identified the current standards and unit being studied in your mentor class.
Using this information, create an ELA pre-assessment using the ELA Pre-Assessment template in the English Language Arts content area. During Clinical Field Experience A, your mentor teacher shared the standards and unit with you. This pre-assessment can be done orally, in writing, or using technology. The pre-assessment should determine how well selected students understand the concept and provide data that will allow you to identify learning gaps and needs so that an appropriate lesson can be developed to meet those needs.
Ask your mentor teacher to review the pre-assessment and provide feedback.
Administer the pre-assessment to the selected group of students and use the results to prepare for Clinical Field Experience C’s lesson plan.
Choose a book with your mentor teacher that can be used to create ELA activities for the students you’ve identified. This book will be used for your upcoming assignment “Clinical Field Experience C: ELA Mini-Lesson Plan.”
Speak with your mentor teacher and, if permitted, use any remaining time to observe and/or assist your mentor teacher or another teacher in the classroom, working with a small group of students on instruction. Any hours spent observing another classroom environment must be approved by your mentor teacher.
Part 2: Afterthoughts
Summarize and reflect on your field experience, including the steps you took to identify students for the pre-assessment, in 250-500 words. How did the pre-assessment provide information about students’ learning gaps and needs? What obstacles did you have to overcome while creating and delivering the pre-assessment? Describe how you’ll apply what you’ve learned in your future professional practice.
