Every US citizen has three representatives in Congress: One member of the House of Representatives and two Senators. For this assignment, choose one of these three and write a profile of them. If you are not a US citizen, then you may choose any current member of Congress. You should include information about their background prior to entering Congress and their work in the Congress. For example, you might discuss their committee assignments, caucus memberships, sponsored legislation, policy areas that they often focus their attention on, leadership roles, interaction with constituents, work they’ve done that has impacted their state or district, or pretty much anything else you find interesting or important about their work as a legislator. Try to figure out what is important to your representative and how that impacts their work.
There is a long debate in The United States about how judges should approach the interpenetration of the law. One side believes that judges should stick to the original intent of the law, while others argue that the Constitution should be interpreted as a “living document” in order to integrate contemporary societal impacts. Having watched the discussion between Supreme Court Justices Scalia and Bryer who do you think makes the better argument for how judges should approach constitutional interpretation?
