Personal Theoretical Framework For Advanced Practice Nursing
Advanced Practice Nursing: A Personal Theoretical Framework
You’ve spent the last six weeks learning about nursing theories. These are the hows of our work as nurses. This week, we’ll investigate the “why” of what we do at a deeper level of thought. Make a statement about your personal nursing philosophy. Explore the literature on nursing philosophy and apply what you’ve learned throughout the course.
While Fawcett was not a nursing theorist, she was a nursing philosopher, and her Metaparadigm of Nursing takes a philosophical approach to nursing rather than a theoretical one. After you’ve stated your philosophy, find a theoretical framework that fits your philosophy (not the middle-range ideas, but the basic assumptions in that framework).
Compare and contrast your philosophy with the framework you’ve chosen. Describe a scenario in which the framework might conflict with or contradict your ideology. While being able to match a theory to a situation is a crucial ability, understanding when a theory or framework does not fit a scenario is as critical.
Talk about your personal nursing philosophy.
Apply what you’ve studied in this course about nursing theory.
Choose a nursing philosophy that most closely resembles your own.
Discuss a nursing framework or theory that aligns with that philosophy, as well as how it aligns with your own.
Identify a conceivable instance in which that framework or theory might be a poor fit, and explain why. While being able to match a theory to a situation is a crucial ability, understanding when a theory or framework does not fit a scenario is as critical.
