Essay about describing a larger conversation
GOAL The purpose of this paper is to accurately describe a difficult subject using two (2) texts that each address one or more aspects of the problem. As a writer, your job is to educate your audience.
TOPIC David Zinczenk’s Don’t Blame the Eater
DIRECTIONS Select one (1) article from TS/IS and locate another article on the same subject. It ought to be a thesis-driven piece from a trustworthy source (so Wikipedia and other reference texts are out). Describe the various points of view on the subject. Rather than presenting the topic as having only two sides (for or against), use the two (2) texts you’ve chosen to demonstrate and clarify the subject’s complexity. You will not answer to this topic; instead, you will present all of your points of view based on the two (2) books you select.
FORMAT The essay should be 4-5 pages long, written and double spaced, with a works cited page included. The essay from the TS/IS you choose, as well as the essay you found, should be included on the MLA-style works cited page, for a total of two (2) essays. At least four quotations must be included in your essay, each of which must be properly formatted using MLA-style parenthetical citation for page numbers, as well as at least four templates, one of which must be used to introduce a quotation (see p. 46) and one of which must be used to explain a quotation (see p. 47).
AUDIENCE As you compose each section of your essay, keep in mind that your audience (myself and your classmates) may be unfamiliar with the essays you’ve chosen.
