Examine the History and Service Delivery Options
This discussion is your opportunity to achieve the week’s learning objective to examine the history and service delivery options for students with a disability. This discussion aligns with Course Learning Outcome 3 and reinforces MAED Program Learning Outcome 2.
This week’s readings provided you with a look into the history of individuals who addressed the academic interests of children with disabilities. These individuals accepted many roles during the process because often there were no legal safeguards against social, academic, or legal injustices.
Starting in the United States in the 1960s, advocates for children with disabilities began a strong campaign for equality. The Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA) was passed in 1975 with reauthorizations, updates, and refinements occurring continuously. Contemporary special educators continue to serve in multiple roles advocating for equality in schools, communities, and workplaces. Although the federally mandated role of special educators has evolved notably, public education for children with disabilities continues to be a dynamic and progressive area of practice.
Initial Post – Begin by reading Chapter 1 in Murawski and Spenser (2011). Next, using the Ashford University Library or another source for scholarly, conduct additional research to explore the trends since 1950 in the United States related to service and delivery options for students with disabilities.
Then, construct a one paragraph response for each of the following: (a) examine how the special educator’s role has evolved as student rights have changed, including consideration for compulsory education, education placement, and education rights protected by federal law; (b) examine trends in special education and the special educators’ role in public education historically and hypothesize how that role might change in the next decade; and (c) identify leaders and other notable figures who have advanced legislation for and practice of special education since the 1950s.
Long-term investment projects require a thorough understanding of all attributes of doing business in that country, including import/export restrictions, labor relations, supplier financing, tax rules, depreciation schedules, currency properties and restrictions, and sources of short-term and long-term debt, to name a few. China is currently the focus of investment and market penetration strategies of multinational firms worldwide including Acme. Your supervisor has asked you to gather information on some of these factors that your company or any MNE would want to consider when doing business in China. (This is the primary focus of this assignment.) As you begin your research, you realize your company would make a significant profit from doing business in China. You also discover that policies on employee welfare, labor relations, etc. are the antithesis of what your CEO firmly believes. Do you include this information in your report, or just provide the strategic information you were asked to gather? (Please respond to this ethics question in a paragraph or two).
Use the Library and other Internet sources (you might start with the web sites listed here), to collect the information. • Extract from Guide to Doing Business in China http://www.hktdc.com/info/mi/bgcn/en/Guide-To-Doing-Business-In-China.htm • China Business Etiquette http://www.cyborlink.com/besite/china.htm900+ words with 5 reference and citation.

Monitor the actions of the Fed. Fed watchers believe that there are three factors that affect interest rates such as:
• The monetary policy of the FED
• The state of the economy
• The level of inflation
Since the monetary policy affects interest rates, it also affects the economic growth rate. Therefore, by controlling the monetary policy the Fed influences the prices of all types of securities. Use the following assumptions to complete your assignment:
You work for a large domestic corporation as a Financial Analyst. You have been asked to evaluate the impact of the Fed’s policy and make recommendations about how the firm’s stock portfolio should be managed given the new policies.
• Economic growth has been average and is expected to improve.
• Unemployment is high but reducing slowly.
• The rate of inflation is approximately 4% per year, and has held steady over the last few years.
• Oil prices are increasing at a high rate.
• The dollar is weak.
• The Fed recently increased the interest rate by a quarter of a point.
The general consensus of economists is that the Fed will stimulate the economy and reduce the unemployment rate. You need to analyze the effects of Fed actions on the large portfolio of U.S. bonds held by your organization. If the Fed stimulates the economy your organization will be better off by switching to stock portfolio. There is also the danger of the Fed increasing the interest rates again. What action would you recommend? Why?
Using the assumptions and information contained in the case study, write a two to three page report for your supervisor outlining your findings and recommending a course of action.
The following options are available for your organization:
1. Switch to stock portfolio
2. Retain the bond portfolio
The case is Bad News at Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot. Instead of completing one of the four problems listed after the case, please follow the instructions below. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Assume the role of Nick Jensen and write a bad-news letter to Jane Smithers, one of Jensen Chemicals and Hardware Depot’s employees, informing her of the elimination of the tuition-reimbursement program. Jane has been using the tuition-reimbursement program for the last 6 years in an attempt to earn her bachelor’s degree. She has completed 38 classes with help from the company’s program and has 7 classes left to finish her degree. Hints: 1. Choose a letter format – block or modified block.
- Write this letter indirect; this means a buffer is needed. An indirect bad news letter format is needed: Buffer, Reasons, Bad News, Options/alternatives, and Positive Close. 3. A bad-news letter does not need to be negative; write this as a positive, upbeat letter and still present the bad news. 4. Create a strong buffer – remember this will be a stand-alone paragraph; do not put the bad news in with the buffer. 5. What options or alternatives does Jane have? This is something you will need to think about, there are many! Be creative and think through this letter. This is an important part of the letter. 6. Make sure you have your name on this letter somewhere (on the back is fine). 7. Don’t forget to include a full letterhead and inside address. You are welcome to make up the address for both.
Acme, a United States firm, has been in acquisition talks with two different European firms. JEL Industries is headquartered in a country that is part of the European Union (EU), and uses the Euro, while DBC Industries is headquartered in a European country that does not belong to the Union and does not use the Euro as their primary currency. Based only on the knowledge of whether or not the firm is located in a country within or outside of the European Union, recommend one of the organizations and explain why you selected that organization. In your response be sure to describe the implications of running a business in a country that is within or outside of the European Union. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the choice you made.
Question
Self-awareness is essential for developing management and leadership skills. Recognizing your own strengths, weaknesses, and values, and understanding emotional intelligence and learning styles can help you to be a more effective leader. Becoming self-aware is an ongoing process requiring introspection. The more often people practice self-reflection, the more opportunities they have to understand their own behaviors and adapt their approaches to working with other people, which can improve both your own and other’s abilities to meet their professional goals.
For the Module 2 assignment, you have the opportunity to take a variety of self-assessments to learn more about yourself and identify your assets and weaknesses as a leader. This will assist you in discovering how you can improve your own self-leadership skills. You will be asked to think critically about your results and submit a reflection as directed below.
The Module 2 assignment is only the beginning of a self-reflective process you are asked to undertake in this course. You should continue to think about your self-leadership skills as you progress through the readings and assignments. You will be asked to refer back to your self-assessment results and reflection when you compose your Leadership Philosophy statement, which is due later in Module 6. The Module 6 assignment will ask you to build on the reflection written in Module 2 in order to clearly articulate your values and leadership qualities and how they form the basis for effectively leading others and your organization.
Refer to “MGT-605 Self-Assessment Links” (attached in the Topic Material). Complete at least one test from each of the first four categories and both of the Diversity Tolerance assessments:
1.Emotional Intelligence
2.Personality Test
3.Learning Styles
4.Values Survey
5.Diversity Tolerance
Be sure to document the results of each assessment to assist you in completing the reflection portion of the assignment below.
Self-Assessment Reflection
After completing the self-assessments, write a 1,000 word reflection in which you discuss the following:
1.Describe the importance of self-awareness, self-concept, and emotional intelligence and the role they play in enabling effective leadership.
2.Briefly summarize the results of each of the six tests you completed. In general, do you believe the results represent who you are? Explain.
3.What insights have you gained about yourself after taking the assessments? How could this knowledge influence your values, attitude towards others, and how you approach new tasks in the workplace?
4.Explain the significance of the self-assessment results in relation to your individual behavior, your behavior within groups, and within organizations. What have you learned about your ability to manage others within the workplace? What have you learned about what it takes to manage yourself or how you respond to the management tactics of others within the workplace? apa format
